Finger Painting Isn’t Just for Fingers

Kevin was recently out of town for the week, so the boys and I decided to paint him some pictures while he was gone.  The medium of choice?…finger paints.

But apparently the boys missed the part about the paint staying on the fingers…

Not sure what was more fun…the painting or the bathing…

A Story by Soren

Below is the explanation I received when I asked Soren what he was drawing…

Sorensart 001

“This is a wolf tied up by a rope to a helicopter flying over the water. But the rope got tangled in the helicopter and it is going into the water and the helicopter can't swim. But then the wolf was on a big rock and held the rope so the helicopter couldn't go in the water. Then a baby rock came and helped too. The baby rock came this way and that way and then it ran into the wolf that needed help so it helped the wolf so the helicopter wouldn't fall in the water.

Then they had a wolf fashion show. A horsey giddy-upped his way fast to the wolf fashion show before it started. And now all the people came to watch the wolf fashion show. At the fashion show they were wearing Halloween costumes. Then they went home to their own house and the baby rock got thrown into the lake with it all tied up with the rope.”

Just a beautiful day in MDI

Recently, Amy  had to travel to MDI to pick up her packet for her MDI Marathon, so we decided to make a nice trip of it. We were going to bring the kids to the coast, maybe have a nice picnic, etc.  The day of the trip, the kids were awfully excited to go. Too bad we forgot to check the weather report…

So we went to Marden’s in Ellsworth instead (better than the beach in my mind!)

And came home with all kinds of crap that we didn’t need.  But at least we had fun doing it…

And then we went to Friendly’s!

Where the kids (and moms) ate junk food…

And where Soren knocked his ice cream sundae on the floor and proceeded to eat it off of the floor…under the booth…that was carpeted…at Friendlys Restaurant…   I’m not much of a germ-a-phobe, but that put me over the edge!

Baby Steps…Er…Paddles

As many of you know, Kevin and I were a match made in the pool.  We first met on the swim team when I was 6 years old and he was 8 years old. From there we grew up swimming together, and well, the rest, as they say, is history.  Needless to say, it is important to us to have swimming be a part of our children’s lives as it was such a positive experience for us. Soren typically loves the water, swimming in our pool, at camp, and will easily go underwater. So when we signed him up for swimming lessons this fall, we thought nothing of it.  I was more than surprised, shocked, frustrated, etc when Soren spent the entire first lesson screaming at the top of his lungs and laying on the pool deck as the 40 other spectator parents looked on:)

After a lot of discussions, the next lesson went quite a bit smoother and before class, Soren even said to his teacher, “Hannah. I want to tell you something. I am sorry for being such a grump yesterday".  It was so cute that it almost made up for his antics during the previous class.

Thankfully, Soren is now enjoying swimming lessons. And while he remains cautious in class (ie: he won’t jump in or go under), at least he isn’t screaming!

Grammie’s Famous Cookies

Nothing says fall like Grammie Neta’s famous pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!  Here’s Kevin passing down the family recipe to the boys. And here are the boys just doing what they do…

Breakfast as Art: Take 2

A while back we posted our family tradition of pancake Sunday (or Saturday).  We have been so busy lounging at camp all summer that we have not gotten a chance to do pancakes in months. As we settle in for winter, we kicked off our pancake Sunday with a bang…or should I say a sugar high!

Things started out nice and neat and clean…

And then the sugar kicked in…
