As many of you know, Kevin and I were a match made in the pool. We first met on the swim team when I was 6 years old and he was 8 years old. From there we grew up swimming together, and well, the rest, as they say, is history. Needless to say, it is important to us to have swimming be a part of our children’s lives as it was such a positive experience for us. Soren typically loves the water, swimming in our pool, at camp, and will easily go underwater. So when we signed him up for swimming lessons this fall, we thought nothing of it. I was more than surprised, shocked, frustrated, etc when Soren spent the entire first lesson screaming at the top of his lungs and laying on the pool deck as the 40 other spectator parents looked on:)
After a lot of discussions, the next lesson went quite a bit smoother and before class, Soren even said to his teacher, “Hannah. I want to tell you something. I am sorry for being such a grump yesterday". It was so cute that it almost made up for his antics during the previous class.
Thankfully, Soren is now enjoying swimming lessons. And while he remains cautious in class (ie: he won’t jump in or go under), at least he isn’t screaming!
