Insta-Cousins

Soren and Boodle have plenty of cousins on my side of the family (4.5 to be exact) but none in sight on the Peterson side. So like any good sister-in-law, I have been bugging my sister-in-law, Amanda, to pop out some babies, to which she replies with an adamant “No!”  That was until she started dating Robbie who has 3 kids of his own.  The other day, Amanda hosted a BBQ in honor of Kevin’s 32nd and all of the kids got to meet for the first time. They had a great time together. 

Do we see insta-cousins in our future?  Only time will tell!  Well, time and a 2 carat princess cut diamond

Intro to Fantasy Baseball

As many of you know, Kevin used to be quite into fantasy sports…no seriously, I mean that it would take up as much time as work.  But because he is a Super Dad, he has sacrificed the mass quantities of hours that he paid attention to fantasy sports and hangs out with his kids instead.  But sure enough, I knew this day would come…

Groovy Smoothies

These days one of Soren’s favorite shows is the Fresh Beat Band. He loves the music, the dancing, and especially the Groovy Smoothies on the show. So as you can imagine, both kids were ecstatic when they awoke to their own Groovy Smoothies on Sunday!

Round Two, For Them, Not Us

This week we had the pleasure of celebrating our friend Lily’s 2nd birthday at a little BBQ.  Lily got some pretty cool new toys including a sand box, and the boys had a great time helping her to break it in. 

Bodie even showed Ruby how the boys play by throwing sand in her face—sorry Ruby! 

We checked out the garden and did our best to try to not pick all of the growing vegetables…

While the toys were fun, the biggest attraction were Emily and Becky’s 2nd round of babies!  Emily welcomed baby Isla in April and Becky welcomed baby Ian in May!  And of course we soaked up the cuteness.

Soren was very interested in the babies which really surprised us since he has been pretty consistent with his stating the babies “freak” him out. And he couldn’t get enough of holding baby Isla. 

Baby Ian slept for most of the visit so Soren didn’t’ get a chance to hold him. On the way home Soren said “Ah, Shucks!  I didn’t get a chance to hold baby Ian. Maybe next time”—His attitude, behavior towards, and words with the babies were so shocking and really showed us how much of a big boy he has become. And in true Super-Dad fashion, Kevin jumped right in there, started his calming sway and did some baby whispering. It just doesn’t get any cuter!

 

Happy 2nd Birthday to Lily!  Congratulations on Round Two to Emily, Phil, Becky, and DJ! It seems like just yesterday I was the one celebrating the 2nd Round. Oh how time flies!

Bye Bye Curls

For the past year, on a daily basis, I have heard Soren say how much he hates his curls and wants a spike cut.  But because I think that his curls are just way too cute to cut, I have continued to put him off. But because Soren is 4 now and getting to be a big boy, I thought it was time to allow him to choose his own hair style.  (Of course under the condition that he grows his hair out to  my preferred cut again for the fall). So off to Supercuts we went…

And because Bodie has to do everything Soren does. And also because the blackflies are hiding out in Bodie’s hair and eating his face off!…

So I am saying goodbye to the curls for the summer, but come fall, I hope to have my curly-haired little beach dos back!

I must admit, I was strangely sad during this event. I kept saying to myself, “its just hair, it will grow back, why do you care?”.  And I realized that it wasn’t about the hair. Allowing Soren to choose his own hair cut was really an exercise in letting go.  I had to step back and allow him to make his own decision even though I disagreed.  Man, if I am this upset about a hair cut, I sure do hope that I like his wife! 

It Clicked!

After 2 years, it finally clicked!  Soren figured out how to steer his jeep.  I was able to actually watch him figure it out and it was like a light bulb went off in his head. He was so proud of himself and drove Boodle around the yard…”See Boodle, we can zig and zag and zig and zag”…
