Death Trap or Refuge

Our beloved pool often is a death trap for various wildlife creatures. We have pulled many a mouse, frog, and bug out of the pool. We just add a little more chlorine and go on with our day.  But last week, the boys were feeling sympathetic and we managed to make a few saves.

IMG_5813IMG_5814IMG_5815The frog was a big hit and we made a cozy little home for him.  Unfortunately, we had added two packages of shock to the pool about an hour before we found him.  I think that mixture of chemicals and Bodie’s delicate touch were just too much for him, and our poor froggie friend did not make it through the afternoon. May he rest in peace.

IMG_5818IMG_5820Once we were done mourning our frog (and believe me, for Bodie it was quite a mourning process!)  We moved on to our next save.

Lucky for the grasshopper, he had a much happier outcome.

Guess Who is learning to write

With Soren missing out on pre-K this year (it’s a long story), we are going to be working on some skills at home. Soren doesn’t seem overly interested in learning his alphabet. He still claims that he does not know all of his letters, but if you catch him when he’s not paying attention, he can easily identify all 26 letters.  Needless to say, I was more than happy when he asked me to read him the book that was titled “usa” rather than U-S-A.  So he must have looked at the letters and actually read the word. Doesn’t know his letter my #@$…

And just because Bodie needs to do everything that Soren does, he got a pic with the board tooSmile

Camp Hopping

We have spent the summer hopping between Grandma’s (Sidell) camp in Beddington and Nana’s (Peterson) camp in Lincolnville.  I know, we lead tortured lives!  A couple of weeks ago, we headed to Nana’s for another Peterson Family fun-packed weekend. With all of the additional kids around (Amanda’s boyfriend’s kids), Nana’s camp is starting to resemble Grandma’s camp.

Bodie has been obsessed with Lobsters all summer.  He talks about them constantly and tries to hit everyone up to buy him one. He certainly hit the jackpot when he asked Beepa for a lobster. It wasn’t long before they were on their way to the store to buy Bodie, and only Bodie, a lobster!  Lucky guy!

Amanda was kind enough and had energy enough (you know, that kind of energy that you only have before you are a mother and have to wipe bums and break up fights all day long every day) to organize some activities for the kids.

I especially love the Mike Tyson tattoo that Soren painted on his eyeIMG_5655

We been to camp enough now that the ducks know right where to go!

IMG_5657IMG_5669We won’t ask how or why this catfish died, but there it was, floating down the lake as the kids were taking their evening bath.  Gross but kind of cool.  To save other swimmers and bath-takers, we threw the dead catfish into the fire—the coolest thing that could have ever happened according to Soren!

A little family resemblance. The only thing missing is Soren!IMG_5662And what would camp be without the nightly (and all day) fire for s’mores.  IMG_5679

Just another rough day in our lives.

Homies

Soren is into being a homey-G lately. It is quite amusing actually. The other day, we got into the car and the boys had their hats on sideways. Soren announced (now picture this in a DJ-type announcement) “Homies in the caaaarrrr!)

Cannonball!

Now that Soren is swimming, he is working on perfecting his cannonball and jackknife. He is actually getting pretty good. As I write this post however, Soren has viewed the video and would like all of his fans to know that he is aware that he did not hold his knees for this cannonball and it is not his best work. He said that when everyone was saying “cannonball”, it made him feel a bit shy so he was not able to perform his best. He says that when he feels shy, it sucks out what he knows and it sucks out his ability. (yes, this is verbatim) But not to worry, I have promised to take a video of future cannonballs when there is a little less pressure on him.

Swinger

I know that we have a ton of things from July to post, but before I just get farther and farther behind, I will just jump into the here and now and sprinkle July pics throughout the year (about the time that we need a nice reminder of hot, sunny days!)

We always knew that physical movement was Bodie’s strong point. But we were a little shocked and impressed with our little independent fellow when we came outside to see this…

However, once the initial shock and joy of not having to push him on the swing anymore wore off, we shrugged our shoulders and say, “that’s Bodie”.

Too Much Fun

So we have been having a ton of fun this summer and spending the majority of the time at camp, in the pool, and on other various adventures.  You know, the way life should be in Maine and in the summer.  So needless to say, we have fallen a bit behind on all other task: cleaning, laundry, paperwork, and yes, blogging. We will catch up, I promise. Especially since we have had such a fun-filled summer with so many cute pics.  But in the meantime,  check out Amy’s blog as she has been my partner-in-crime in the majority of these activities and she is obviously the much more organized partnerWinking smile
