Soren and Bodie’s good friends, Mason and Meah have taken up the new hobby of go-kart racing. They have the pimped out go-karts with sponsors and everything…it seriously is like little NASCAR in training. Mason and Meah…okay, mostly Mason….have been so excited about their new sport. Of course, since Mason is the older and wiser, Soren and Bodie think that anything Mason thinks is cool must be cool. So we decided to take a much needed family night and check out the races.
Since growing up in my family, most family activities included twirling wine and sticking your nose in it to smell the bouquet over a game of Trivial Pursuit or political discussions, the NASCAR culture is a bit foreign to me. This became abundantly clear when I asked if the 15 laps around the go-kart track was the standard number of laps for NASCAR (apparently it is actually 500). Nonetheless, it was a very fun and educational experience.
The kids had a great time on the bleachers and running around an awesomely kid-safe yard!
Soren enjoyed some time with Meah, the girl who he is quite determined that he is going to marry some day.
Nothing like a little pig-piling to pass the time.
For the races, we stayed safely in the spectator area. But during intermission, the spectators are invited to go behind the scenes for an up-close look at the karts.
Meah was very happy to show the boys around.
John, Mason and Meah’s father, was kind enough to let the kids have a seat in the karts. In the mind of a 2 and 4yo, there are few things that are cooler than this!
Meah’s kart had been put away for the night, but the boys didn’t seem to mind climbing into the back of the truck for a quick ride. While Bodie enjoyed Mason’s kart, he couldn’t get enough of Meah’s because he could actually touch the pedals. I think I see a go-kart racing future for our little Boodle.
So overall, it was just an awesome night. We were so happy to get to see Mason and Meah in all of their racing glory! We got to spend a few hours together as a family (seriously, very rare occurrence these days). And I think we may have found a future hobby. I never liked wine or Trivial Pursuit anyway, I’ve always been more of a Bud Light and backyard fire kind of girl anyway
