So we got a bit behind on the blog in July. But for good reason: we were way to busy doing fun things! However, there were a few moments that I wanted to make sure I remember, hence the blog posts eight months later.
For three weeks in July, we had a wonderful student from France, Margaux, stay with us (see future posts), and of course we had to show her all of the tourist attractions.
MDI was a must. As we got to the top of Cadillac Mountain, there was an extra surprise. A group of local Native tribes were doing a drumming circle. I think I take the Native American culture for granted as it is something that we grew up next to. Having someone from Europe with us was a nice reminder at how unique and “American” this culture is. For one of the drumming songs, the crowd was invited to join a the drumming circle. The kids were all very interested in this but all feeling a little bit shy.
In the end, it was Soren who worked up the courage to join the circle. He joined all by himself and stayed for the entire song. It was one of those moments that I realize what a confident and curious little man I have growing up in front of me.
In the end, Soren was so proud of himself for joining the circle (as was I if you can’t tell) and thought it was a lot of fun too. Even now, 8 months later, he talks about “Mom, do you remember when I joined that circle with the drums on the mountain. That was cool!”
Yep, another one of those awesome summer days!
